Case Study: Enhancing Genoa Bay Waterworks

Introduction

In Genoa Bay, near Duncan, British Columbia, the Genoa Bay Waterworks Society supplies water to over 40 homes. This unique system, which uses a natural spring and gravity to move water to a cistern before it’s treated, needed significant updates to keep providing clean and safe drinking water.

Goals

Our main goal was to upgrade the water storage, pump, and treatment facilities to ensure the community continues to have reliable access to high-quality drinking water.

Challenges

The main challenge was modernizing the existing system, which depends on a natural spring—a less common water source—to ensure it performs efficiently and maintains water quality.

Project Overview

We focused on innovative and smart planning, upgrading the pumps to work better together for consistent water pressure (lead-lag), and installing the latest water treatment technology to make the water perfectly clean and safe.

Outcomes

The upgrades were successful, and now the community enjoys quality water. The project received positive feedback from the residents, highlighting the importance of clean water and effective management.

Conclusion

The Genoa Bay Waterworks upgrade is a clear example of how thoughtful planning and modern technology can improve water supply systems significantly, ensuring communities have access to safe drinking water.
